How long does it take a singing voice to mature?

Just curious. If you are a teenager, then is there a set “time” for your voice to mature.

And is it possible to extend your range still in the higher octaves? I want to be able to sing a top top E comfortably. I have a top top C at the moment.

How long’s a piece of string?

While some things are biological and can’t be controlled, you can strengthen your voice by working your range, and singing regularly will help ‘prime’ the voice, giving a the perception of a mature voice.

Never push it or strain it. Just work it well. Lessons will help, though there are plenty of great tips online. But don’t let yourself get into bad habits, they can be hard to unlearn.

    It really depends.

Generally speaking, it is best not to pursue formal voice lessons until age 16. At that point a person’s voice begins to mature and is ready to take on challenges that are brought on by training. It doesnt matter what style you want to sing.

However depending on the type of style of singing or training you pursue affects your voice. For example, for many opera singers, their voices are not considered fully matured until they are in their 30’s !

Take your time and train wisely with an experienced vocal coach. You will at some point be able to really use your talent and shine .
